The Young Achievers Scholarship is the primary scholarship that we award every year at Send Your Kids to College. In 2025, we want to take some time to let you know why you should apply for it, especially since the due date to submit an application is July 1st. We will break down some of the big reasons and give you a testimonial from a recent past winner.
There are multiple reasons why a person would apply to any particular scholarship, but here in 2025, there are some things that might make you more inclined to apply. A lot has changed over the last few years. What the scholarship represents now is certainly different than what it might have represented just a few years ago.
Same Scholarship, Different Economy
The world is certainly in a much different place now; the economy is in a tough spot, a new student loan crisis could be on the way, and so, economically, this scholarship could be a big deal for you just based on that alone.
It represents a chance to get ahead of the game when it comes to arguably the most important thing that will affect your college life… money! You need money badly, and with this scholarship awarding up to three students $1,000 towards a college education, that can go a long way.
With the economy starting to see some drawbacks due to recent tariff policies of the current presidential administration, something as simple as your books, computers, food, and whatever else you need to get through a year of college will go up in price.
In the event of an economic hard time, make sure to keep up to date with the potential student loan crisis that could also come now that student loan collections are being collected again under a new policy change from the current administration.
Good Practice for Future Scholarship Applications
Practice makes perfect, right? There’s no harm in simply applying if you believe that you are qualified for this scholarship opportunity. Two of our big requirements for applicants are to show ambition and motivation in school and in the community, and explain why going to college will add value to their lives.
Whether you apply for other scholarships before starting college or apply for ones while currently in your 2nd year of school doesn’t matter; it still helps with practicing how you come off to the people who review these applications. A good first impression will give you a boost.
Past Scholarship Winner Advice
Averi from Akron High School Class of 2025 was one of last year's winners of the scholarship, and in our official video testimonial, she talks about her experiences with what she has done to get to this point, where she was awarded the scholarship. She speaks on her educational experiences, sports life, and even her side job helping to teach young girls field hockey.
We also ask her what their experience was like writing the essay to apply and what tips she would give. She says to just do it! We said it already, but just try. There’s no harm in it, but only practice for better opportunities. Write what you think is important and have your parents help you with it too, because they know as much as what that’s like.
