Meet Our 2023 Scholarship Winners!

Welcome back to the Send Your Kids to College Blog! We provide insights and info on all aspects of college planning here for students and families of WNY and beyond! If you ever have a question or concern about your future college plans, please don't hesitate to reach out via our contact form or by phone! If you follow us on social media, you may have already heard, but we recently announced our 3 winners of the Young Achievers Scholarship!

We had MANY entries, and it wasn't easy to select just 3 winners! We appreciate everyone who submitted an application and in the future we will be opening up applications for next years scholarship. If you aren't graduating this year, you should still be eligible to apply for the next opportunity!

These winners are in no particular order, but all 3 demonstrated a very mature and realistic perspective on their own lives, and their potential future college lives.

Emma - Orchard Park HS Class of 2025

Emma demonstrated that she has always had a passion for animals and that has thrust her forward into dreaming of a life in the veterinary world. Since she was a little girl, she's dreamt of being a veterinarian, and her ideal college would be Cornell University because of their terrific veterinary program. She realizes Cornell is an Ivy League school, and will be expensive, but because it is in state it could end up cheaper than another specialty school in another state. She's confident if she keeps up on her grades, she can make that dream a reality.

Eleanor - Amherst HS Class of 2026

Despite being our youngest winner of this year, Eleanor was certainly not short of maturity! With a passion for helping others, they've always been fascinated by the way the world works, from individual cells to planets in the solar system.

"Knowing I've helped to make a difference in someone else's life is what I find most rewarding."

Because of their desire to go into medicine, they're interested in colleges with strong science programs. Two schools they are considering are Stony Brook University and the University of Rochester, because it will enable them to major in a powerful biology or chemistry program. Ultimate dream? Become a doctor and make a real impact in others' lives!

Sienna - Clarence HS Class of 2024

Sienna is a committed Tennis player and finished up her senior season for the Red Devils of Clarence this fall. She'll be graduating this year and is looking at focusing her major in Bio/Science, more specifically the STEM field. She noted in her essay that she's hoping to find a college that features "easy access to the city or town, and that have a small to medium and diverse cohort of students." She likes the idea of moving to a "college town" like Rochester, Boston or Pittsburgh. She's been saving her own money for college since tenth grade, working part time jobs and plans to continue to earn more savings this summer prior to leaving for college. Her top school choices are University of Rochester, UB, and Pitt University.

Congratulations to all of our winners and we just want to say, meeting these 3 individuals and doing these interviews with them gave us faith in the future! All 3 were inspiring, engaged, sharp, and entertaining to hear their story. We hope this gives you hopeful positivity on your own college planning journey!
